Empowering Amazonas:

The Escola da Floresta Project Unites Education and Environmental Conservation

The Amazonas government, under the leadership of Governor Wilson Lima, recently announced a transformative educational and environmental initiative. The initiative, centered around the construction of a new unit of the Escola da Floresta (Forest School) program in Carauari, is fuelled by a donation of $1.5 million (R$ 7.4 million) from BR ARBO Gestão Florestal S.A. of Brazil and GIBBI SRL of Italy, the team behind the Mejuruá project.

This collaborative effort signifies a strategic push to expand the reach and impact of the Escola da Floresta program. The program itself, coordinated by the State Secretariat of Education, is part of the Educa+Amazonas program launched by Governor Wilson Lima in 2021. It seeks to enhance environmental and social education n state conservation units, ensuring a sustainable future for the Amazonas region.

The commitment by BR ARBO Gestão Florestal S.A. and GIBBI SRL to invest not only in the physical infrastructure but also in the necessary equipment and furnishings for the new school unit aligns perfectly with the goals of the Mejuruá project, which is distinguished by its comprehensive approach to creating positive environmental and social outcomes, and is anticipating social investments totalling some $40 million.

The partnership reflects a significant advancement in environmental education and conservation efforts in Amazonas, showcasing a model for sustainable development that could inspire similar initiatives globally.
